Hyderabad Metro Rail opened on 28 November 2017 and runs 57 stations across three lines and about 69 km of elevated track. It was built as a public-private partnership, one of the largest of its kind for a metro, and is operated by L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited under an agreement with the Telangana government and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL).

The Red Line (Corridor I) is the longest, running from Miyapur in the north-west to LB Nagar in the south-east through Kukatpally, Ameerpet, Punjagutta, Lakdikapul and MG Bus Station. The Blue Line (Corridor III) runs from Nagole in the east through Uppal, Secunderabad, Ameerpet and Madhapur to HITEC City and Raidurg, the heart of the IT district. The short Green Line (Corridor II) links JBS Parade Ground with MG Bus Station.

There are three interchanges: Ameerpet (Red and Blue), MG Bus Station (Red and Green) and Parade Ground (Blue and Green). Ameerpet is the busiest station on the network and the usual place to change between the western suburbs and HITEC City.

Fares depend on distance. The HMRL fare chart lists ten distance bands from ₹12 to ₹75. HMRL says on its fares page that a 10% discount is applied to the percentage increase, so riders pay less than the chart: a ticketing app charged ₹11 for the shortest trip and ₹69 for the longest on 7 November 2026. A Metro Smart Card gives a 10% discount on every trip and removes the need to queue for tokens, which matters at Ameerpet and HITEC City at rush hour.

The metro does not reach Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. TGSRTC Pushpak airport buses and app cabs link the airport with the city, and several Pushpak routes stop near metro stations.

How do I reach Charminar by metro?

There is no station at Charminar yet. The nearest is MG Bus Station (Red and Green lines), about 2 to 3 km away; an auto-rickshaw takes around 10 to 15 minutes. An Old City extension towards Chandrayangutta is planned.

What is the maximum fare on Hyderabad Metro?

The HMRL fare chart tops out at ₹75 and starts at ₹12, but HMRL applies a 10% discount to the percentage increase, so riders pay less. A ticketing app charged ₹69 for the longest trips and ₹11 for the shortest on 7 November 2026. Confirm at a station or in the official app.
